In the early morning hours of Sunday, March 17, 2019, the life of 37-year-old Ahmad Simms, a male resident of Southeast Washington, D.C., was tragically cut short. At approximately 5:20 a.m., law enforcement responded to a report of an assault in the 1800 block of Q Street, SE. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr. Simms unconscious and unresponsive inside a residence.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, having suffered what a police report described as 'blunt force trauma to the head'.

On July 15, 2019, the Metropolitan Police Department arrested 29-year-old Andre Dubose in connection with the homicide. Dubose was subsequently charged with first-degree murder while armed for the fatal assault on Simms. It was alleged that Dubose had used a wooden object to inflict the fatal injuries. However, Dubose's release was revoked in January 2021 after he was re-arrested for allegedly assaulting two individuals with a metal bed frame pole. This new incident led to him being returned to jail. In May 2022, court records indicate that a defendant in a case matching these circumstances pleaded guilty to killing a man with a wooden board and assaulting others with a bed frame.
