In the spring of 2019, the life of 33-year-old Pierre Mercer, a Black man from Washington, D.C., was violently cut short. On the afternoon of Wednesday, May 22nd, at approximately 12:48 p.m., Mercer was in the 2300 block of Shannon Place, Southeast, when he was fatally shot. The brazen daylight attack occurred near Savoy Elementary School, prompting a brief lockdown of the facility to protect the students and staff.
