On May 18, 2023, 26-year-old Antoine Deonta Ester was fatally shot in his apartment located in the 2600 block of Tempest Drive Southwest, within Birmingham's Powderly community. At approximately 2:25 p.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, they discovered Ester unresponsive on the floor, suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
