On April 3, 2023, 28-year-old Tedarrius Quentez Smith was fatally shot by a Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy in Birmingham, Alabama. The incident began around 2 p.m. when deputies attempted a traffic stop in Fairfield, suspecting Smith had an outstanding kidnapping warrant. Smith fled, leading deputies on a pursuit that ended near 30th Court North and Fred L. Shuttlesworth Drive in the Collegeville area.
