In the late afternoon of a spring day in Birmingham, Alabama, the life of 28-year-old Tedarrius Quentez Smith, a Black male, came to a sudden and violent end. On April 4, 2023, Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies attempted to pull over Smith in a traffic stop, citing an outstanding warrant. A pursuit ensued when Smith did not stop, leading to a dead end in the Collegeville public housing community.
