On October 15, 2023, 33-year-old Cedric Lavoris Watts, an inmate at William Donaldson Correctional Facility in Bessemer, Alabama, was fatally stabbed during an assault. The incident occurred around 10:09 a.m., when correctional staff discovered Watts severely injured outside his dormitory. He was promptly taken to the facility's Health Care Unit, where life-saving measures were administered; however, he succumbed to his injuries approximately an hour later.
