In the late hours of a Saturday night in Midfield, Alabama, a physical altercation in the 500 block of Henson Street escalated into a fatal shooting, claiming the life of 33-year-old Koreyanta Davis. On September 2, 2023, police responded to a 911 call at 9:51 p.m. regarding the fight. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Davis, a mother of two, lying deceased near the edge of the street with a gunshot wound.
Remembered as 'Koko' by her friends, Davis was described as a vibrant and beloved individual. Her best friend recalled her as 'the energy' and someone who 'was loved by everybody.' She leaves behind two young sons who were said to have adored her. In the days leading up to her death, a post on her social media account read, “These ni**as ain't shit wit out no gun.”
The investigation into her death quickly led to a person of interest. Authorities later identified George Eric Peppins, a 47-year-old convicted sex offender, as the suspect and charged him with murder. According to police, Davis was involved in a physical altercation with another woman when Peppins allegedly shot her. Following the shooting, Peppins fled the scene and was considered armed and dangerous. Police released a photograph of a man they believed to be the shooter and asked for the public's help in identifying and locating him.
