On August 11, 2023, 62-year-old Benjamin Craig Sharpton was fatally shot in Argo, Alabama. At approximately 10:35 a.m., Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic-related shooting in the 8800 block of Gadsden Highway. Witnesses reported that Sharpton was shot by his ex-wife, 58-year-old Grace Dunaway Yancey. Yancey was taken into custody and charged with intentional murder.
