On September 11, 2022, 29-year-old Christopher Lamar Tanks of Bessemer, Alabama, was fatally shot during a child custody exchange at McNeil Park in Bessemer's Pipe Shop community. The incident occurred around 1:10 p.m. and involved an argument among four individuals over the custody of two children, aged 2 and 5, who were present but unharmed.
