On August 9, 2011, male store owner Norman Alhout, age 56, was shot during an attempted robbery at Johnny's Food Market on the 1200 block of Maryland Avenue in Wilmington's Browntown neighborhood. Police reported the robbery began around 6:53 p.m.; a struggle followed, and the male victim, age 56, was shot once in the head and pronounced dead at the scene. The killing occurred while he was working the cash register.
