On October 30, 2022, at approximately 9:20 p.m., a home invasion occurred in the Oakleigh Estates neighborhood of Gadsden, Alabama. During the incident, 61-year-old Cornell Toney was shot inside the residence on Carolyn Lane, where he and two other individuals were staying. Despite his injuries, Toney managed to exit the house and sought help at a neighbor's property, where he collapsed in the yard.
