In the late winter of 2020, the community of Carbon-Hill, Alabama, was unsettled by the disappearance of 51-year-old Lisa Warren. A female resident of the small city, she was last seen on February 24th. The following day, her husband, Robert Perry Warren, a 51-year-old Carbon Hill city councilman, reported her missing, sparking an investigation that would soon take a dark turn.
The search for Lisa Warren came to a grim conclusion when her body was discovered in a creek.
It was her own husband who led authorities to her remains. An autopsy would later reveal that she died from blunt force trauma to the head. The investigation into her death quickly focused on Robert Warren as the primary suspect.
Following the discovery of his wife's body, Robert Perry Warren was arrested and initially charged with manslaughter. However, as the investigation progressed and more evidence came to light, the charges against him were upgraded to murder. He was also charged with abuse of a corpse. Court documents indicated that the charges stemmed from a violent argument between the couple.
The case against the city councilman moved through the legal system, and a Walker County grand jury handed down an indictment for murder and abuse of a corpse. As the community awaited the trial, the case took an unexpected turn. In May of 2021, before he could be tried for the murder of his wife, Robert Perry Warren died.
