In the early evening of December 8, 2019, tragedy struck in Birmingham, Alabama, when 18-year-old Ivey Carter Wilson III was found fatally shot. The incident occurred at approximately 5:20 p.m. in the 200 block of Tucker Avenue, where Birmingham Police officers responded to a report of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Wilson and another 18-year-old, Kendall Jamal Shack, lying unresponsive in the roadway. Both young men were suffering from gunshot wounds.
Personnel from Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene and pronounced both Wilson and Shack deceased.
The Birmingham Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the double slaying. Despite their efforts, no arrests have been made in connection with the deaths of the two teenagers. In the wake of the violence, community leaders, including the City Council President, organized a vigil to honor the memories of Wilson and Shack. The gathering also served as a call to action to end the violence that had shaken the community. Authorities have continued to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case.
