Her body was discovered on November 15, 1981, discarded in a ditch off Weld County roads 8 and 11 near Dacono, Colorado. An investigation quickly determined that she had been shot, and her death was ruled a homicide.
The day before her body was found, on November 14, 1981, Yvonne was last seen in the Five Points neighborhood of Denver.
She was reportedly walking into an alley near a local establishment known as Big Al's Bar. A witness later recounted hearing a gunshot ring out from that same alley. In the days leading up to her death, Yvonne had expressed a sense of foreboding to her sister, alluding to a dangerous situation involving a jealous woman within a toxic love triangle, further complicated by connections to illegal drugs. She had warned her sister to be strong, expressing a feeling that her life was in imminent danger.
Investigators have pursued various leads over the years. The theory that her murder was connected to a drug transaction has been a significant part of the inquiry. Her death was also examined alongside other unsolved murders of women in the area, leading to the formation of a task force in 1988 to investigate the possibility of a serial killer targeting sex workers along Colfax Avenue. While suspects were identified in Yvonne Rabb's case, a lack of sufficient evidence has prevented any arrests from being made.
