On a tragic Friday evening in Birmingham, Alabama, the life of Demarkus Etwan Moss, Sr., a 22-year-old Black man, was cut short in a brazen act of violence. On September 2, 2022, while driving with his infant son and toddler daughter, Moss was targeted by gunfire. The shooting occurred in the 800 block of Arkadelphia Road, causing him to lose control of his vehicle and collide with another car nearly two blocks away.
First responders arrived at the scene of the crash in the 1000 block of Arkadelphia Road to find a devastating scene. Moss was unresponsive in his white Infinity G35, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. His two young children, who were in the car with him, were injured in the subsequent crash. His toddler daughter was reported to be in critical condition, while his infant son's injuries were not life-threatening. The occupants of the other vehicle involved in the collision also sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
In the wake of the incident, the Birmingham Police Department launched a homicide investigation. Authorities believe the shots were intentionally fired into Moss's vehicle from another car. Despite appeals to the public for information, no arrests have been made in the case, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
