On a cold November evening in 2011, a burst of violence on a west side Milwaukee street cut short the life of 18-year-old Dequan D. Williams, a Black male. The incident unfolded on November 30th in the 3600 block of W. Vliet St.. Williams was shot and gravely wounded at the scene.
Rushed to a local hospital, he clung to life for nearly a month. His fight ended in late December of that year, when he succumbed to the injuries he had sustained in the shooting.
His death marked the city's 86th homicide of 2011.
In the immediate aftermath of Williams' death, Milwaukee police were actively investigating the shooting.
