In the autumn of 2010, the discovery of a young man's body inside an abandoned car cast a somber shadow over a Denver neighborhood. The man was identified as 26-year-old Santiago Gutierrez-Hernandez, a Hispanic male. On October 17, 2010, police responded to a call about a silver four-door Ford Focus that had been left in the 1100 block of South King Street in the Garfield Park area.
Inside the vehicle, officers found Gutierrez-Hernandez deceased in the backseat.
An investigation by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner later determined that Santiago Gutierrez-Hernandez had died from a gunshot wound to the chest, and his death was officially ruled a homicide. Detectives learned that he was last seen alive four days prior, on Wednesday, October 13, 2010. Reports from the investigation indicated that he may have been with an unidentified woman shortly before his murder.
