Marvin James Smith, 33, male, Black, was shot on the late afternoon of January 22, 2011, inside the Wise Harris Arms Apartments at 605 26th Street in Denver. Responding officers found him suffering from a gunshot wound; paramedics rushed him to Denver Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 5:47 p.m. that day.
Detectives opened homicide case 11-035264 and canvassed the 600 block of 26th Street after reports of shots fired from within the apartment building.
The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner and the police confirmed his identity and age, noting he had been transported from the scene at approximately 5:27 p.m. before succumbing to his injuries. Smith's death was ruled a homicide by gunshot, and the apartment complex became the focal point for early investigative work as officers pieced together the sequence of events leading to the shooting.
Despite initial leads, the investigation has not produced an arrest. Years later, the case remains open with Denver's Cold Case Unit actively seeking information about the person or people responsible.
