A many is found dead lying in an alley In the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 19, 1994, the body of Robert McFarland, a 31-year-old Black man, was discovered lying in an alley in the 5800 block of East Hastings Arch in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Police and rescue personnel arrived on the scene at approximately 3:00 a.m. to find that McFarland had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
Robert McFarland was described as being 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing 230 pounds, with brown eyes, black hair, and a full beard
and mustache. Following the discovery, his body was transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy, where the manner of his death was officially ruled a homicide.
Despite the passage of time, the case of Robert McFarland's murder remains unsolved. The Virginia Beach Police Department's Cold Case Homicide Unit continues to list the case as open and is seeking information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death. There have been no publicly identified suspects, and no arrests have been made in connection with this decades-old homicide.
