Herbert J. Strehl, a 75-year-old German immigrant and businessman from Salt Lake City, Utah, was found murdered on December 3, 2000, in Parley's Canyon, a remote area outside the city. Strehl’s body was discovered tied up and shot multiple times, with his hands and feet bound, in a quarry near Interstate 80. His vehicle, a 1991 Jeep Cherokee, was missing from the scene, and its disappearance became a significant focus of the investigation.
