On December 1, 2007, at approximately 1:20 a.m., Houston police responded to a shooting incident at 9000 Town Park. Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of Rigoberto Yak Xamimes, a male in his 20s, who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the back. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Another victim, 23-year-old Jorge Yak, had been shot in the leg and was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital in good condition.
According to the investigation, Xamimes and Yak were walking along the sidewalk on Town Park when a black vehicle approached them. A Hispanic male suspect, described as being in his late teens with a slim build and wearing a black baggy shirt, exited the vehicle while the driver remained inside. The suspect, armed with a pistol, demanded money from the two men. A struggle ensued between Xamimes and the suspect, during which Xamimes was shot. Yak was also shot but managed to flee. As he escaped, Yak observed the suspect searching Xamimes' pockets. The suspect then returned to the black vehicle, described as a Honda, Nissan, or Toyota, and fled the scene.
As of the latest available information, the suspect in the shooting death of Rigoberto Yak Xamimes has not been apprehended. The Houston Police Department continues to seek assistance from the public in identifying and locating the individual responsible for this crime.
