On the night of December 6, 2008, Letha Perkins, age 51, and her 13-year-old goddaughter were tragically shot and killed during a home invasion in their residence in northeast Houston. The incident took place at Perkins' home on Sandra Street, a neighborhood that had been grappling with increasing drug-related activity. Late in the evening, neighbors heard the sound of gunshots, and police found both Perkins and her goddaughter deceased at the scene.
