Chou Ung, a 28-year-old woman of Chinese ethnicity, was tragically killed on November 30, 2008, in Houston, TX. She was shot in the head during an apparent robbery attempt at a Chevron gas station in the 11300 block of Westheimer. Ung had just left her family's restaurant, Chef Huang's, and was on her way home when she stopped to fill up her car.
The suspect, described as a young black male between 18 and 21 years old, wearing a dark hoodie and black pants, approached Ung and a verbal
argument ensued. During the altercation, the suspect shot Ung and fled the scene on foot. Despite the presence of two witnesses, the case remains unsolved.
In the aftermath of Ung's death, the Houston Police Department and Crime Stoppers offered a reward of $11,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. The investigation focused on the possibility of robbery as the motive, but no significant leads have been found to date.
Ung's family, who emigrated from Cambodia and own several restaurants in the Houston area, has been vocal about seeking justice for her death. Her brother, Tony Ung, described her as a kind and giving person who was well-loved by her friends and family. Chou Ung was also studying education at the University of Houston and aspired to become a teacher.
The case has left Ung's family and friends devastated, and they continue to hope for answers and justice. The Houston Police Department has urged anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
