On February 6, 2016, at approximately 5:05 a.m., 30-year-old Jonatan Casimiro-Flores was fatally stabbed outside his apartment complex at 9501 Beechnut Street in Houston, Texas. He and his roommate were preparing to leave for work when two masked men approached them, demanding money at knifepoint. During the confrontation, Casimiro-Flores resisted and was stabbed multiple times by one of the assailants. Both suspects fled the scene immediately after the attack.

The Houston Police Department's Homicide Division launched an investigation, leading to the identification of two suspects: 21-year-olds Cristian Enamorado (also known as Adalberto Martinez) and Roger Fernando Avila-Godinez. Both were charged with capital murder in the 338th State District Court. At the time of the charges, Enamorado was in the custody of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on an unrelated robbery case, while Avila-Godinez was in federal custody for a separate incident.

Further investigation revealed that the suspects were associated with the Southwest Cholos street gang. After the murder, they attended a party where they were seen with new cell phones, one of which belonged to Casimiro-Flores' roommate. Fingerprints and other evidence linked them to the crime. Despite the arrests, the case underscores the ongoing challenges Houston faces with gang-related violence and the efforts of law enforcement to bring justice to victims and their families.
