On June 7, 2016, Elizabeth Harris, aged 42, was fatally shot in her northeast Houston apartment. The incident involved her ex-boyfriend, Darrell P. Mitchell, who was charged with capital murder. Mitchell reportedly knocked on the door of Harris's apartment around 3 a.m. and shot her and her new boyfriend during an altercation.
