On July 17, 2016, Francisco Ortega Martinez, a 35-year-old Hispanic male, was fatally shot in the driveway of his residence in southeast Houston, Texas. The incident occurred around 3:25 a.m. when Francisco Ortega Martinez and his girlfriend returned home to the 7300 block of Lamar Street. As his girlfriend proceeded to the back door, she heard someone yelling, “give me your money, give me your money,” directed at Francisco Ortega Martinez.
Fearing for her safety, she did not return to the vehicle and instead called the police. Upon arrival, officers found Francisco Ortega Martinez suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators reported that a dark-colored sedan of an unknown make and model had been following Francisco Ortega Martinez westbound on Lamar Street just before the shooting. Moments after the gunfire, the vehicle was seen speeding eastbound on Lamar Street. As of the latest available information, the suspects remain unidentified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the case.
