On October 11, 2017, Edwin Ortega, aged 31, was involved in a fatal altercation at the Country Inn & Suites located at 15555 JFK Blvd in Houston, Texas. The incident occurred late at night and involved Ortega and his 18-year-old step-son, Christian Chavez. The two were reportedly engaged in a physical fight in a third-floor room when the confrontation escalated.
