In the early morning hours of Sunday, January 7, 2007, the life of Nakia Ladelle Baker was tragically cut short in a parking lot on Nolensville Road in South Nashville. Baker, a 32-year-old man from Murfreesboro, had spent the preceding hours socializing with friends at Club Aventura, an after-hours establishment. Just before 6:00 a.m., as he was leaving the club and opening the door to his blue 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue, he was fatally shot.
His body was discovered lying on the ground next to his vehicle. At the time of the incident, Baker was dressed as a woman, a detail that has led investigators to consider it as a possible motive, though the exact reason for his killing remains unknown. The club was known to be a place frequented by men who dress in women's clothing. Baker was a resident of Murfreesboro but often traveled to Nashville to socialize with friends. He was described as an outgoing and caring person who worked at Prologistix.
Despite the years that have passed, the murder of Nakia Baker remains unsolved, and his case is now considered a cold case by the Metro Nashville Police Department. Law enforcement officials have continued to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the investigation. A reward has been offered for tips that result in the arrest and prosecution of the individual or individuals responsible for his death. As of late 2025, there have been no arrests made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the homicide. The case continues to be a painful mystery for his surviving family, including his mother and brothers.
