Jose Napolean Garcia, a 23-year-old White man, stepped out of a Nashville club just after 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2008, following an argument that ended the night abruptly. Alone, he started walking home through the quiet hours before dawn, moving along Denson Avenue as the city thinned to empty streets and scattered porch lights.
Near 832 Denson Avenue, the walk turned violent. According to the account preserved by Metro Nashville Police Department’s Cold Case Homicide Unit, Garcia was attacked and stabbed. The assault left him badly wounded, and he was taken to a hospital, where doctors tried to save him as the injuries took their toll.
He survived the initial attack but not the aftermath. On the evening of August 4, 2008, Garcia succumbed to his injuries, and what began as a late-night dispute and a short walk home ended as a homicide investigation.
In the years since, the case has remained listed publicly as an unsolved cold case, with police continuing to ask for help identifying whoever carried out the stabbing.
