In the early morning hours of Sunday, November 9, 2008, Tremayne Lamont Woods, a 27-year-old African-American man, was at a Nashville nightclub called The Place, located at 217 2nd Avenue South. An argument erupted between Woods and another Black male, prompting a security guard to intervene and separate the two. Following the altercation, the man Woods had argued with, accompanied by a group of about six other individuals, stepped outside onto the porch.
After approximately five minutes, the group re-entered the club. The man who had previously argued with Woods approached him from behind and fatally shot him. The act appeared to be a targeted attack stemming from the earlier dispute. Tremayne Lamont Woods was pronounced dead at the scene. His death was a sudden and violent end to a life, leaving his family and friends in search of answers.
Despite the public nature of the shooting inside the nightclub, no arrests were immediately made in connection with the murder. The case eventually went cold, and as of late 2025, it remains an unsolved homicide. The Nashville Police Department's Cold Case Homicide Unit continues to seek information from the public regarding the identity of the man who shot Tremayne Lamont Woods and the individuals who were with him that night.
