On May 29, 1975, 64-year-old Charlie Russo was shot and killed during a robbery at Ye Olde Fireplace Restaurant in Greenville, South Carolina. Two masked men entered the closed restaurant just after midnight, ordering the staff and patrons to the floor. Russo, a well-known musician who had played with Charlie Spivak's band, was shot after confronting one of the robbers. The assailants fled in a stolen car, which was later found abandoned.
