A young mother and daughter are found slain outside of their Pennslyvania home
On September 2, 1994, 23-year-old Gail Matthews and her 5-year-old daughter, Tamara Berkheiser, were found brutally murdered in their home on Center Street in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The mother and daughter were stabbed, strangled, and beaten, and their bodies were discovered when they failed to show up for breakfast at Gail's mother’s house. The case shocked the community and has remained unsolved for nearly three decades. Despite the tragedy, their family and friends continue to honor their memory, organizing yearly vigils to keep the case in the public eye and to remind everyone that justice has not yet been served.

The investigation into Gail and Tamara's deaths has faced numerous challenges over the years. In 2004, an individual named Earl R. “Skip” Kramer was arrested in connection with the murders, but he was released due to insufficient evidence. Since then, no other arrests have been made. Recently, Detective Kenneth Mains took over the case and has been working diligently to uncover new leads. The Matthews family remains hopeful that advancements in forensic technology might eventually lead to a breakthrough. Gail's mother, Lois Beackley, and other family members have not given up on finding justice and continue to push for answers, holding vigils and distributing flyers to keep the case alive in the community's consciousness.

The pain of losing Gail and Tamara has been a long and difficult journey for the Matthews family, but they are determined to see the case solved. Gail was remembered by her friends and family as a devoted mother who worked hard to support her family. Her brother, Dave Matthews, expressed his determination to see the case solved, noting that their family is not one to quit. Their hope is that with persistence and the help of the community, justice can finally be achieved for Gail and Tamara, whose lives were tragically cut short. The community has continued to hold annual candlelight vigils, gathering to share their grief and keep the memories of Gail and Tamara alive, while also calling for anyone with information to come forward and help bring their killer to justice.
