Trevor Greer, an 18-year-old from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was tragically killed on July 23, 2007, while walking home in the Mexican War Streets area of Pittsburgh’s North Side. Trevor was shot by an assailant who fired at least 16 shots from an assault-style rifle, hitting Trevor multiple times and shattering car windows along Jacksonia Street. The shooter either exited a vehicle to attack Trevor or fired from the moving car, and despite a number of witnesses, police struggled to gather reliable information about the incident. Trevor was rushed to Allegheny General Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries at 11:45 p.m. that night.
Authorities believe Trevor's shooting may have been connected to another incident the following day, in which three men were shot approximately a mile away on North Charles Street. Police speculated that the second shooting could have been a retaliation for Trevor’s killing, though they faced challenges in securing cooperation from witnesses and neighbors. Despite these efforts, no arrests were made, and the investigation faced setbacks due to lack of community involvement.
Trevor was described by his family as a joyful, kind young man who loved making people laugh. He had recently earned his General Equivalency Diploma and was contemplating his next steps in life. Friends and family gathered after his death to share memories of his playful nature, including stories of him walking his pet iguanas when he was a child. Trevor lived with his grandmother and was an only child until his younger brother Jelani was born two years prior. His family and friends remember him as a sweet and loving individual whose life was cut tragically short in an act of senseless violence. The community held vigils to remember Trevor and seek justice for his death, but as of now, the case remains unsolved.
These events are part of a larger pattern of violence affecting the North Side at the time, with retaliatory shootings posing ongoing challenges to local law enforcement and community safety.
