In the late afternoon of a November day in 2008, a 14-year-old boy returned to his family's home on the North Side of Pittsburgh to a scene that would forever alter his life. He discovered his older brother, 19-year-old Raemon Gray, in a second-floor bedroom, having been fatally shot in the head. The younger brother immediately alerted neighbors, who then contacted the authorities. Medics arrived at the Kennedy Avenue residence and pronounced Raemon Gray dead at the scene.
Investigators began the arduous task of piecing together the events that led to the young man's violent death. They determined that the shooting likely occurred sometime between one and five o'clock that afternoon. In the initial stages of the investigation, a motive for the slaying remained elusive, and detectives were actively seeking witnesses who might have seen or heard anything unusual in the neighborhood during that time frame. The weapon used in the commission of the crime was not recovered from the scene.
Raemon M. Gray, a young Black man, was a beloved son, a father to a daughter, and a brother. His death left a profound void in the lives of his family and friends, who remembered him through a Celebration of Life Service held at the Greater Allen AME Church, followed by his interment at Highwood Cemetery. Despite the passage of time, the case of who killed Raemon Gray remains unsolved. With no publicly identified suspects or arrests made, his murder has become a cold case, leaving his loved ones with unanswered questions and a continued search for justice.
