In the summer of 2007, a wave of violence was sweeping through Philadelphia, and it was in this climate of fear and uncertainty that Jerome Boyer, a 35-year-old African-American man, lost his life. On the 4th of August, in a neighborhood already plagued by high crime rates, an altercation erupted that ended in gunfire. When the chaos subsided, Jerome Boyer had been fatally shot.
