Mamadou Makadji, a 22-year-old student from Mali, West Africa, was tragically killed in an attempted robbery on August 17, 2009, in Elmwood Park, Philadelphia. Mamadou had moved to Philadelphia in April 2009 to study English at Temple University, hoping to build a brighter future in the United States.
