In the Hill District of Pittsburgh on the afternoon of April 6, 2011, a young man's life was cut short in a burst of gunfire. Stephon Green, a 19-year-old male from the Oak Hill area, was found lying in the street at the intersection of LaPlace Street and Centre Avenue with multiple gunshot wounds. The shooting, which occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m., prompted a nearby elementary school to be placed on lockdown as police began their investigation.
