In a tragic turn of events stemming from an online sale, a teenage boy from Philadelphia lost his life in a violent shootout. Sixteen-year-old Quaneef Lee, a male, was fatally shot on December 9, 2025, in the Germantown neighborhood of the city. The incident, which also claimed the life of 30-year-old Tyree Ware, unfolded around 5:11 p.m. on the 500 block of West Queen Lane.
The confrontation occurred during a prearranged meeting for the sale of a Rolex watch that Ware had advertised
online. Lee, accompanied by another male, met with Ware with the intention of purchasing the watch. However, the transaction quickly escalated into an attempted robbery, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Police believe that Lee and his associate attempted to rob Ware at gunpoint, and Ware, who was also armed, retaliated.
When police arrived at the scene, they discovered a grim tableau. Ware was found with multiple gunshot wounds beside his silver Nissan Maxima, and a 9mm handgun was lying near him. Lee was discovered behind the vehicle, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. Both individuals were rushed to Temple University Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Investigators recovered eleven bullet casings from the scene, indicating a significant exchange of fire. It was later determined that three firearms were involved in the shootout, though only one was recovered at the scene. The Rolex watch that was the catalyst for the deadly encounter was found inside Ware's vehicle.
In the weeks that followed the deadly shooting, the Philadelphia Police Department's Homicide Unit continued their investigation. Their efforts led to a breakthrough, and on Tuesday, January 29, 2026, a suspect was arrested in connection with the murders of both Quaneef Lee and Tyree Ware. While the identity of the suspect has not been publicly released, the case is now considered solved by the police, with the outcome pending trial. The male who accompanied Lee to the transaction and is believed to have been involved in the attempted robbery has not been publicly identified.
