On a late November evening in 2012, a visit to a Lawrenceville apartment that doubled as a recording studio ended in the death of 25-year-old Solomon Burton of Mount Lebanon. The incident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2012, in the 4700 block of Butler Street.
That night, Burton, a Black male, approached the second-floor apartment and knocked on the door. When the occupants opened it, they saw that Burton was armed with a gun.
The individuals inside, who were also armed, quickly shut the door and fired through it. Burton was struck multiple times, with two shots hitting his chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and a gun was recovered outside the apartment door.
Pittsburgh police responded to the shooting and detained four people who were inside the recording studio for questioning. Despite the interviews, no arrests were made in the immediate aftermath of the incident. Investigators believed that there may have been other people present in the studio who left before police arrived. The investigation into Burton's death was ongoing as authorities worked to determine a motive for the shooting and to identify everyone involved. As of early 2026, there have been no public updates regarding any arrests or charges filed in the case.
