In the late hours of a Monday night in Philadelphia, tragedy befell 21-year-old Karon Payne-Smith, a Black male. On September 14, 2015, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the sound of gunfire echoed through the 2300 block of Montrose Street. Responding to the reports, Philadelphia Police officers arrived at the scene to find Payne-Smith lying in the street, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The officers acted quickly, placing the critically injured man in their patrol vehicle and
rushing him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Karon Payne-Smith succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead the following day, on Tuesday, September 15, 2015. A resident of the 2400 block of Carpenter Street, his life was cut short by an act of violence that remains unsolved.
To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting death of Karon Payne-Smith. The Philadelphia Police Department continues to seek assistance from the public in solving this case, hoping that someone will come forward with information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the person or persons responsible for this fatal shooting. The investigation into his death remains open.
