On a Sunday in May 2016, 67-year-old Chien-Kuo Lin arrived at the North Wales home he once shared with his ex-wife, Hsiu-Chin 'Linda' Lin, to retrieve some of his belongings. Concerned for his safety, he had requested a police officer to be present. The officer stayed until Chien-Kuo had gathered his things and then departed. However, less than thirty minutes after the officer left, a domestic dispute escalated, and the garage of the two-story home became a crime scene.
Hsiu-Chin Lin,
who was 63 at the time, confronted her ex-husband. Their adult son, who was present, later told police that his mother had come outside with a shotgun and asked him if she should kill his father. He also heard his mother on the phone with his sister, repeatedly stating her intention to kill him. Soon after, the son heard gunshots and his mother came back inside, telling him to call 911. When police arrived at the South 6th Street residence, they found Chien-Kuo Lin in the garage with a fatal gunshot wound to his chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Inside the house, officers found Hsiu-Chin Lin sitting at the kitchen table with a. 38 caliber revolver in front of her. She was taken into custody without incident. Investigators learned that she had been test-firing the gun in the week leading up to the shooting. She was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
Hsiu-Chin Lin was held at the Montgomery County prison without bail. In April 2017, she pleaded guilty to a negotiated charge of third-degree murder. Her defense attorney stated that the plea took into consideration a long history of abuse she had allegedly suffered at the hands of her ex-husband. As a result of her guilty plea, Hsiu-Chin 'Linda' Lin was sentenced to serve 7 ½ to 20 years in state prison.
