Ricardo Washington Jr., a 30-year-old Black male, was shot twice with an assault rifle on December 18, 2016. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries around 3 a.m.
In the years that have passed, the pain of his loss remains raw for his family, who remember him as a quiet man
devoted to his children. His mother, Yvette Scott, and sister, Takeela Washington, have spoken out about the lack of closure and the persistent violence that plagues their community. They described Ricardo, affectionately known as 'Pooh Bear,' as a loving father who enjoyed simple things like washing his daughter's hair. Though he had faced struggles in his past, including a felony drug conviction, his family said he had emerged from jail a changed person.
Despite the passage of time, no arrests have been made in connection with Ricardo Washington Jr.'s murder. His case is one of many unsolved homicides that have left families in Pittsburgh searching for answers and an end to the cycle of violence. A $2,000 reward was offered for information leading to an arrest, but as of now, those responsible for his death remain at large, leaving his loved ones to grapple with a wound that may never fully heal.
