In the early morning hours of Sunday, July 9, 2017, the life of 30-year-old Mia Chantia White of Bellevue, Pennsylvania, was tragically cut short. The single mother had been out with friends for a birthday celebration and had just returned to the Manchester neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Shortly after 4 a.m., as she sat in the passenger seat of a car parked on the 1100 block of Liverpool Street, a barrage of at least 10 gunshots rang out in the darkness.
Struck by multiple bullets, White was pronounced dead at the scene. A 27-year-old friend who was in the driver's seat was also wounded, sustaining a gunshot to the leg but ultimately surviving the attack. Neighbors were startled by the gunfire and the subsequent screams they heard. White was remembered by her family as a loving, respectful, and spiritual person who was devoted to her family and her church, where she would sometimes perform mime to spiritual music. She left behind a 14-year-old daughter.
In the years following the shooting, the case has remained unsolved. Pittsburgh Police investigators have indicated that they have very little evidence in the case and have appealed to the public for any information that could lead to an arrest. In July 2019, two years after her death, Pittsburgh Crime Stoppers began offering a reward for information about the deadly shooting. To date, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Mia White. The investigation into her death remains ongoing.
