In the summer of 1978, 54-year-old Eileen Standley was living alone in a small apartment at 415 W. Haskell Place #B in the Osage Hills Apartments complex in Tulsa, Oklahoma, when her life was violently cut short. On the afternoon of August 6, a friend—described in at least one later account as her boyfriend—came by around 5:10 p.m. after work to see her.
