In the early hours of October 3, 2007, San Francisco police discovered 29-year-old Ramadan Smith lying face down in the bike lane on the 2300 block of Post Street in the Western Addition neighborhood. Officers responded to the scene around 1 a.m., where Smith was found with fatal gunshot wounds.
Smith's death was one of three fatal shootings in San Francisco that day.
Later that morning, 17-year-old Reynaldo Cruz Hernandez of Oakland was shot near Ellis and Larkin streets in the Tenderloin district. In the evening, an unidentified 30-year-old man was fatally shot at Towerside Avenue and Schwerin Street in Visitacion Valley.
At the time of the incidents, no arrests had been made in connection with any of the shootings. The San Francisco Police Department continued to investigate the cases, seeking information from the public to aid in identifying the perpetrators.
