On May 27, 1999, Reginald Leonard Young, aged 22, was shot while driving in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Young was driving a borrowed vehicle westbound on 27th Street North from Cincinnati Avenue when, at approximately 10:50 to 10:55 PM, he heard around ten gunshots. One of the bullets struck him in the back, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, which then veered off the road and crashed into a house at 112 E. 27th Street North. This gunshot wound left Young paralyzed from the waist down.
