On the morning of February 24, 2008, a quiet Sunday in east Tulsa, life at an apartment complex on East 33rd Street unfolded in an ordinary rhythm. Ociel Sanchez, a 22-year-old White male, stepped outside his building at 9733 East 33rd Street to take out the garbage, a simple household task that drew him into the open courtyard of the complex. There, near the exterior of his east Tulsa apartment, a stranger approached him with a gun, turning a routine moment into the final minutes of his life.
