Dewayne D. Crawford Jr., a 33-year-old Black man, was killed in Birmingham, Alabama, after a late-October 2011 shooting that began as an ordinary ride through the city and ended with a frantic, puzzling rush back to his neighborhood. According to investigators, Crawford was in a vehicle on the 200 block of 3rd Avenue West when gunfire erupted from another car, described as a white Impala.
