On February 19, 1982, 19-year-old Deanne Campbell and 29-year-old Richard Boyd were found murdered in a duplex house on Woodsedge Court in Northeast Columbus, Ohio. Both victims had been shot in the head. The residence showed no signs of forced entry or burglary, and Campbell’s car, a late-model Pontiac Trans-Am, was found outside with visible damage to the front and rear.
Boyd worked as a maintenance man for a realty company that owned the duplex, while Campbell was a student at Bliss College and a freelance model.
The investigation revealed connections between Campbell, Boyd, and a man named Roy Howard Sage, who was a known acquaintance of both victims. Days after their deaths, Sage was involved in a separate crime—a murder and attempted suicide—which led to questions about his possible involvement in Campbell and Boyd’s deaths. However, despite being considered a person of interest, Sage was never officially charged in their murders. The case received significant media attention during the 1980s, but it remains unsolved to this day. Deanne's parents tried for years to resolve the investigation and honor her memory by publishing tributes in the local newspaper.
