Mariah Dawn Carpenter, a 24-year-old woman from Columbus, OH, tragically passed away on June 6, 2018. She was born on January 19, 1994, in Huntington, WV. Mariah was the mother of a young son, A’Mill Carpenter, and was survived by her mother Dawn Sutherland, and her brothers Zachary and Aaron. Her father, Michael Carpenter, and grandparents John and Mary Carpenter had predeceased her.
Mariah's death was determined to be part of an apparent murder-suicide incident. On the day of her death, Columbus police officers were called to a Far West Side apartment complex in response to a concern for the safety of Mariah and her 2-year-old son. Upon entering the apartment, they discovered Mariah and Quantaine Jamone Tate, 34, both deceased from gunshot wounds. It was believed that Tate shot Mariah before taking his own life. The 2-year-old child was found unharmed in the apartment.
The investigation revealed that Mariah had been in a relationship with Tate, but the exact nature of their relationship at the time of the incident was uncertain.
