On February 17, 1983, Richard K. Maull, aged 58, was involved in an altercation outside a residence on Lane Street in Akron, Ohio. During this confrontation with an unknown suspect, Maull was shot in the head. He was immediately hospitalized and fought for his life for nearly a month before succumbing to his injuries on March 13, 1983.
